Havening Technique

Havening Technique is a process that involves rewiring the brain and body after experiences of trauma. Emerging research has shown how repeated, structured touch on the face, arms and hands can produce changes to chemicals in the brain, enabling rewiring of neural pathways. This allows the ‘charge’ of distress experienced with trauma to be neutralised and clears the body of the fight, flight and freeze triggers that can continue to be reactivated long after the danger has passed. Belinda guides people through the technique, they are applying to themselves, known as ‘self-havening’.

As with other techniques Belinda uses, Havening does not use details or descriptions of trauma experiences as part of the process. You do not need to talk in detail about what has happened, or have a clear memory or story/narrative around your experience. This can be common for people who have experienced trauma, as traumatic memory is laid down, (and therefore recalled) differently in the brain.

Havening Technique is able to be used by the client long after sessions with Belinda have ended. This is part of her philosophy of supporting people with techniques and modalities they can take with them and use after the time spent working together.
